Best Places in New York City for Wedding Receptions

There’s something indescribable about a winter wedding in Vermont—especially when it happens at a venue as breathtaking as the Mountaintop Inn. Nestled in the Green Mountains, this luxury resort offers panoramic views that could easily be mistaken for Jackson Hole. Jenny and Mike’s wedding was the perfect blend of natural beauty, timeless style, and heartfelt moments. As their photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a more dreamy setting or more wonderful couple to capture.

A Winter Wedding at the Mountaintop Inn

If you’ve ever dreamed of a mountain escape, a Mountaintop Inn wedding is exactly the kind of inspiration you need. Located in Chittenden, Vermont, this venue offers expansive views of the surrounding mountains and a serene lake that turns into a magical winter backdrop.

Jenny and Mike chose the Mountaintop Inn for its secluded, peaceful setting. Their vision was simple elegance paired with the kind of scenic drama that only winter in Vermont can deliver—and they got it.

Getting Ready

The day began slowly and intentionally. Jenny got ready inside the warm bridal suite surrounded by her closest friends. Her dress was classic and elegant, perfectly matched by a bouquet of white blooms and soft greenery. The monochromatic palette worked beautifully against the mountain landscape outside.

Meanwhile, Mike got ready just across the property. He wore a sharp black tuxedo and bowtie—a timeless look that felt extra elevated against the crisp winter air. You could feel the anticipation building as they each prepared for their first look.

First Look by the Lake

There are some moments that feel suspended in time. Jenny and Mike’s first look by the lake was one of them. With the sun casting a soft glow and clouds drifting lazily through the sky, the scene was pure magic.

They saw each other for the first time outside, standing in the stillness of the winter air. The water behind them reflected the light just enough to add an ethereal quality to the images. You could see the emotion in both of their faces—joy, relief, excitement. Photographing their first look felt like documenting the opening chapter of a very beautiful story.

Portraits in Golden Light and Cloudy Skies

After the first look, we stayed by the water for portraits. One of the most amazing parts of a Mountaintop Inn wedding in winter is how the light plays with the landscape. That day, the sky was a mix of sun and slow-moving clouds, which added texture and depth to every frame.

Jenny’s dress moved softly in the breeze, and Mike kept her warm between shots. The contrast of their classic black-and-white palette against the soft whites and blues of the environment made every photo feel like a fine art print.

We captured candid laughs, quiet embraces, and one unforgettable moment when they stood still together, just watching the sky move.

Ceremony with a View

The ceremony took place overlooking the open fields and lake. Guests wrapped themselves in cozy blankets and watched as Jenny walked down the aisle, her smile lighting up the space.

The couple exchanged heartfelt vows, surrounded by loved ones and the beauty of nature. The rolling hills behind them made the moment feel timeless. There was something incredibly peaceful about standing in the middle of a winter landscape while witnessing something so warm and intimate.

Cozy Reception Indoors

After the outdoor ceremony, everyone moved inside the Inn for a warm and welcoming reception. The Mountaintop Inn’s rustic-meets-refined interiors make it ideal for winter weddings. The wood-beamed ceilings and roaring fireplace created a cozy ambiance, and the candlelight added a soft, romantic glow.

The floral arrangements followed the same clean, white-and-green aesthetic seen in Jenny’s bouquet. The design was elegant without being overdone—perfect for a setting that already speaks volumes on its own.

Their first dance was followed by heartfelt toasts, plenty of laughter, and a packed dance floor. The atmosphere was joyful, intimate, and full of energy.

A Sparkler Exit Under the Stars

As the night came to a close, guests stepped outside for one final celebration—a sparkler send-off under the winter sky. Jenny and Mike walked hand in hand through a glowing tunnel of friends and family. The cold air was filled with light and laughter, and it was the perfect ending to a perfect day.

The sparklers lit up their faces as they kissed under the stars. I love sparkler exits for the energy and emotion they bring, and this one was no exception.

Why Choose a Mountaintop Inn Wedding?

As a Connecticut and New England wedding photographer, I’ve worked at many beautiful venues. But the Mountaintop Inn is truly something special.

It offers:

  • Unmatched views of Vermont’s mountains and lakes
  • A perfect blend of rustic charm and luxury
  • Indoor and outdoor options for winter weddings
  • Seclusion and peace while still being accessible

For couples who want a destination-feel without having to fly west, a Mountaintop Inn wedding delivers everything—stunning scenery, cozy elegance, and the kind of seasonal magic that makes your day feel cinematic.

Jenny and Mike’s wedding embodied everything that makes this venue so memorable. It was visually striking, emotionally rich, and deeply personal. I’m so grateful to have been there to capture it all.
