Home is where the heart is, or so they say. And it was home where Katie and Matt met. Growing up in the same town and attending the same high school, the casually knew each other through friends but never really ran with the same crowd. Matt would claim that was because he ruled the school and Katie was a bit of a nerd. But somewhere down the road they reconnected one night at Mohegan Sun Casino and that night a spark was ignited. The problem was that Matt was living away from home at the time, serving in the military. A million and two text messages, a few hundred phone calls, and one fateful visit to San Diego confirmed to Katie realized that if home is where the heart is then her heart was currently in San Diego. Through the perfect storm of events, Katie had an opportunity to move to San Diego for a few months and somewhere between the laundry always being done and his place smelling like the best bakery in town, I think he realized that his heart, too, was at home with Katie.

One six month deployment and a few years later, Katie and Matt finally were able to reside in the place they call home. Not just in the same town they grew up in, but with each other. Because home is where the heart is. And, in the words of Katie, “they say the rest is all history but I think you have to say that at the end, because if not the story would go on FOREVER…”

Meet Katie + Matt.

We met up at Belltown Orchards in Glastonbury, CT, the town they grew up in and the town they will raise their children in. Amongst fields of blueberries and apples, I captured a love so sweet and special that the two of them share.

The colors at Belltown Orchards were perfect for this engagement shoot, and we were lucky to have shot these just a couple days before Hurricane Sandy stripped out state of all it’s beautiful colorful leaves.
