Karen + Alex's Wedding at Guilford Yacht Club

She looked out the window of her hotel suite in downtown New Haven as the sky got dark and the rain began to slowly drizzle down. A light drizzle quickly turned into downpours and Karen’s hopes of an outdoor ceremony were quickly fading. We kept a close eye on the radar and the forecast was bleak, not exactly what one would hope for a midsummer wedding day. But neither Karen or Alex batted an eyelash. They were incredibly calm and had a “it is what it is” attitude, knowing that at the end of the day all that mattered was marrying the love of their lives, and throwing the party of the year for their friends and family. They grabbed their umbrellas and headed out to the shuttle bus and, somehow, someway, right before their first look the clouds shut themselves up and held off. Not only that, but little glimpses of actual sunshine began to peek through. We did their first look in downtown New Haven, at Woolsey Hall of Yale campus, and then made our way over to Guilford Yacht club for their ceremony and reception. By the time we got to Guilford Yacht club, the staff were bringing chairs outside and wiping things down because the sun decided to show up for this epic event. Just as the doors opened and Karen made her way down the aisle, the sun came out to fully show it’s face and turn that bleak rainy day into a bright and sunny one as it illuminated Karen’s gorgeous golden locks. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the perfect New England wedding Karen and Alex envisioned – fancy cocktails and a raw oyster bar for their guests, along with one of the regions best DJ’s to set the mood. When all was said and done, I don’t think Karen and Alex could’ve asked for a better wedding day – and not just because of the weather, but because of all the love, laughter, tears and smiles that were exchanged in celebration of the start of their lives together as husband and wife.
