I shot Katie and Mike’s wedding a couple years ago and, to this day, it was one of the most joy-filled weddings I’ve ever shot. Since then I’ve had the chance to photograph Katie and Mike on numerous special occasions. So it was that when Katie and Mike finally got around to taking their dream trip – and official honeymoon – to Santorini, Greece, that she reached out to me to see if I knew of any photographers there. I didn’t, but as we began talking more about what she envisioned, it became clear that it would be possible for me to take the trip alongside the and photograph them on this stunning island. Our original plan was to do a quintessential sunset shoot but, upon seeing how massive the crowds were on our first night there, I suggested we move the shoot to sunrise. Sunrise in Santorini is like the hidden gem of the island. The light is every bit as dreamy as a romantic honeymoon sunset, but you have the added bonus of feeling like you have the whole island to yourself. Almost nobody, save a few Santorini natives, were out at 7:30AM. We had no restrictions or limitations on backdrops because there simply weren’t any people to avoid. We made our way through all the main parts of Oia, taking photos around every corner, and in every nook and cranny. We captured the sweeping caldera views as well as romantic photos as they cozied up together in front of old wood doors. This shoot in Santorini was an absolute dream come true – I think for both Katie + Mike, and I!
