I first heard about Callan through Beth Chapman at The White Dress by the Shore, one of our favorite wedding gown boutiques in CT, when Beth posted about a cake for one of their White Carpet clients. I hopped over to the cake account – I Need Sugar Therapy – and decided to reach out to Callan. I had put it on my goal list for that year to learn how to make stacked cakes, so I reached out and asked Callan if she would be willing to barter with me (sidenote: Callan, we still need to do those headshots!). She came over one day and taught me how to make buttercream, how to stack a cake straight, and how to frost it evenly. And promptly after she left, I ate half the cake myself, haha.
It was probably a year later that I saw on Instagram that Callan got engaged and I secretly hoped that she would reach out to me. I knew her style was impeccable, and that she would have a gorgeous wedding. It wasn’t but a few weeks later that I received the email I had been hoping for. I think she said something like “I don’t know if you remember me, but…”, OF COURSE I remembered her! And I was THRILLED to get her email! Shortly after booking, we did Callan and Erikson’s engagement session on a cold and blustery day (you’ll notice a trend here…), in Stonington, CT. She talked about her plans for the wedding and I started getting really excited! Their wintery, December wedding was bound to be stunning!
I showed up to the Branford House on the morning of their wedding, to a fun group of girls hustling and bustling about….and the most adorable kids ever running around. Callan had FOUR flower girls, which was so much fun! She had all of her details perfectly laid out and with once glance, I knew it was going to be a dream day to photograph. I could ramble on and on about all the amazing details and the TWELVE CAKES (I mean, what did you expect of a cake designer?), but the best parts of their wedding day was all of the love and laughter from their family and friends. The look on Erikson’s face when he saw Callan for the first time said it all – that he couldn’t wait to marry his dream girl. The tears and laughter from their friends and family throughout the day, the support as they said their vows, and the absolute party that their reception was – all of that made their day something for the books! The twelve cakes was, for lack of a better word, just the icing on the cake 😉
