I was nervous. Scared to death was more like it. A frantic wreck, running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. Ok, maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration. Or maybe not. It was t-minus 18 hours before Jenn & Shawn’s Hartford wedding, and the weather took a turn for the worst. With any other client, it would have been no big deal – I have a pocket full of fun places that we could have done their portraits at. But Jen and Shawn, they were different.
To this day I have never had a client whose wedding portraits were as important to them as Jenn & Shawn’s. And I had never had a groom so very into every detail of wedding portraits as Shawn. π They are my ideal client in so many ways, and the pressure was on to exceed their expectations! We had met months before, brainstorming about creative ideas for their portraits. They wanted editorial-looking, fashion-inspired portraits. Their amazing wedding planner DeeDee Benyi of Always & Forever Weddings and I met up for an afternoon to scout out unique locations. I was nervous, but so very excited. Until that oh-so-kind weather man delivered news that made us all sit back and say “Uh…we never thought of a plan B”. So with less than 18 hours left before we started shooting their portraits, DeeDee and I were scurrying around Hartford looking for wedding portrait locations that were unique and creative.
And we found them. 4 flights of stairs up and down hallways that seemed to go on for an eternity in a maze-like formation was an open room with this amazingly creamy light pouring in. Hardwood floors and some antique furniture that I picked up that morning ended up making a great backdrop for some of my favorite-yet wedding portraits. The rain let up for a bit which allowed us to head over to the Colt Armory Building in downtown Hartford to grab some rough-looking wedding portrait shots. After hours of searching, we found the perfect locations!
Needless to say, I think our mission was accomplished. π What do YOU think?
What an elegant bride!
Seriously, how gorgeous is Jenn?
…and how handsome is Shawn? Not to mention that AWESOME antique chest!
I heart Jenn’s shoes. I heart them so much, that ironically enough, I showed up with shoes that were almost identical – color and all!

Once a hurling player, always a hurling player.
So, I totally love when my clients bring props to their wedding portraits!
Shawn is a major fan of hurling, a sport which I had never heard about prior to meeting him. After he sent me numerous videos, I started to become more interested…thinking I may look into some local games! Looks like fun! π
And Jenn brought along her favorite book π
